Fred H. Roster (1944-December 19, 2017) was an American sculptor known for his impure media narrative sculptures. He was born in Palo Alto, California and grew up upon a farm. Roster standard an MA in ceramics from San José State University in 1968. He came to Hawaii in 1969 on his honeymoon and approved to stay. In 1970, he earned an MFA in sculpture from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He united the power of the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 1971, and retired as professor and chair of the sculpture program in 2016.
Roster sculpts in rough-hewn wood, clay, and stone, often combining these materials in a single work. With the encourage of his students, he casts many of his own wood and clay sculptures in bronze. Moveable wheels are incorporated into many sculptures. Others augment dogs, especially miniature schnauzers, which his mom raised. Untitled in the growth of the Honolulu Museum of Art is typical of his dirty media sculptures. The Hawaii State Art Museum and the Honolulu Museum of Art are in the middle of the public collections holding feign by this artist.
