Giovanni Francesco Barbieri (February 8, 1591 – December 22, 1666), better known as Guercino, or il Guercino [ɡwerˈtʃiːno], was an Italian Baroque painter and draftsman from Cento in the Emilia region, who was nimble in Rome and Bologna. The keen naturalism of his to the fore manner contrasts in the melody of the classical equilibrium of his unconventional works. His many drawings are noted for their luminosity and in force style.
