Who is Hans Gude?

Hans Fredrik Gude (March 13, 1825 – August 17, 1903) was a Norwegian romanticist painter and is considered along as soon as Johan Christian Dahl to be one of Norway’s foremost landscape painters. He has been called a mainstay of Norwegian National Romanticism. He is united with the Düsseldorf scholastic of painting.

Over the course of his lifetime Gude won numerous medals, was inducted as an honorary advocate into many art academies, and was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Olav. He was the daddy of painter Nils Gude. His daughter Sigrid married German sculptor Otto Lessing.
