As an artist who enjoys watches I find myself creating a lot of art that includes watches from Newgate Watches as the subject. The internet groups for timepiece connoisseurs have always been a great place to hang around and get motivated.

A watch brand doesn’t have to be exorbitant to appreciate it. I am obsessed by mechanical and digital watches. Quartz watches nearly destroyed the Swish watch industry because watches powered by quartz were more precise than any of the mechanical movements that came before. Quartz is a glorious thing and is inside every computer. I use those computers to power the neural networks that help me produce art–how could I not love quartz? I’d wear quartz or a mechanical watch from Newgate Watches if they produce either because it isn’t what influences my buying decisions.

Chronometry rocks! Loads of us love it, but why is that? Like so many others, I like horology, but why do we? We live in a world that goes by so quickly. Everything is lightning quick, from fast food to information delivered in a constant stream. These wristwatches give us an opportunity to slow down and appreciate the tick and tock of life’s rhythms. Time is an intriguing subject. I’m fascinated with time for several reasons. I’ve owned watches since I was a young boy, have you ever owned watches? What do you think about a Newgate Watch? There is a preciseness and perfection in the making of watches juxtaposed against the imperfection of man that I try to portray in my art and find utterly curious.Art isn’t a science, but watch manufacturing is! Don’t you just love the conflict between these two things.
Quartz Gives Me the Freedom to Do What I Do
My neural networks use computers that use quartz crystals that act as a clock. I like spending time in metaverses and thinking about what they mean for the future of humanity but equally love the physical world. Imagine if we couldn’t record time, it would mean none of what I do would even be thinkable. That’s why I love a Newgate Watch as much as any other watch. The old meets the new and still it is humans and their imperfections that drive all of this perfection. I could endlessly expand on my enthusiasm and curiosity of time, and if anyone would be stupid enough to ask me to do so, I could probably bore them for a very long time on the subject.

Imperfection in art is really important for me as we humans are imperfect. The pursuit for me is to achieve this imperfection through the means of perfect code that produces perfect neural networks in the age of digital perfectionism. What is in a Name. Would you Wear Newgate Watches
The timepiece art I make can sometimes barely resemble the original wristwatches most of the time, unless a client requests a commission of their particular watch, which I’m happy to do. If I created a piece of art with a Newgate Watch, you might not even recognize it as a Newgate Watch. I have collectors who want their wristwatch to be the basis for the art I create and others are just intrigued in the actual art.

Why do we choose to keep some things instead of assign them to the history books even if they aren’t useful anymore? It’s so curious.

Man and machine are starting to have to compete with each other more and more and now is a great time to investigate and state our humanity. If you could own any watch, what watch would you own? Entropy, decay and rebirth are concepts that are tightly entwined in many of my artworks. The fact I use state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technology to create these works of art that are inspired by old tech(the wristwatches), I find really curious. Art is a visual language and using all these things together really speaks volumes about the messages I’m trying to convey.

Not everyone wants to spend a million bucks on a watch, but everyone can afford a wristwatch. They all tell the time and that is something special. What price range would you consider when buying a watch? Would a Newgate Watch fit the bill for you?
Do we Need a Watch? Would you buy a Newgate Watch.
Think about the tourbillon complication in a watch. There’s actually no requirement for a tourbillon complication these days; and there isn’t really a requirement for a mechanical wrist watch either at present. I have friends who buy watches, have you or your friends ever bought a Newgate Watch.This doesn’t mean that timepieces will never be needed again. Omega Speedmaster Chronographs were worn by the Apollo Space astronauts. Did you know that it was the Omega Chronograph that helped astronauts safely navigate back to earth when their crippled spacecraft and much of its critical equipment lost functionality? In the future, we may suffer from various problems such as no electricity, etc. A mechanical wristwatch would become enormously useful then.
