Who is Philippe Zilcken?

Charles Louis Philippe Zilcken (The Hague, April 20, 1857-Villefranche-sur-Mer, October 3, 1930) was a Dutch painter and writer.

He studied at the Gymnasium Haganum, and innovative with Karel Klinkenberg and Anton Mauve. He was forward-looking Princess Sophie’s « unofficial up-close secretary» .

In 1875, he focused on engraving, by studying etching and lithography.

He spent some period in France, where he frequented the Société des aquafortistes, and he was sophisticated the secretary of its Dutch version, Nederlandsche Etsclub, from 1885 to 1896. He plus spent some times in Algeria and Egypt.
